CRICH CHASE – FRIDAY, 8 JULY

We hope you all enjoyed last Friday night’s summer event at Crich Chase.  The weather turned out to be superb, compared with Tuesday afternoon when we walked the Chase to decide on the controls in a monsoon.  It soon became clear that anything more than a few metres from a path, in ferns above your head, would be more than a trifle challenging!

We set out the controls on Friday morning.  Unfortunately, by the evening, 3 controls had been vandalised (some were returned to their correct places by Alex Ross during the event).  Merry revellers (judging by the beer cans and other detritus) had further fun later in the evening and we were unable to find 4 controls at all when we went collecting on Saturday morning.   We would probably not found them, in any event, had they still been there.

We are sorry that we just had to count the punches on the control cards and ignore that fact that some of the time they were all in place and at others they were not; so apologies for those who were affected by this turn of events.

However, we hope this didn’t detract too much from the immense fun of battling through impenetrable undergrowth, vindictive brambles and long overgrown paths (which appear on the map as of motorway proportions) to find (or not) a red and white kite.

Thanks, as usual, to Di and Simon from LEI for helping us plan and lay out the event.

Margaret and Roger Keeling.
